We are currently spring breaking at a horse ranch in Santa Ynez that I went to when I was a kid. The memories! Hoping there’s still a talent show night so I can redeem myself for a whisper-sung (rousing!) rendition of the ABC’s. There are hay wagons and corral lessons and tomorrow night we’re heading to a rodeo. It’s delightful watching my kids experience a place that is rooted so firmly in my core memories.
I came here with my dad and that is baked into my fondness for this place, as though by recreating the same experiences for my own children they will feel close to him. Or maybe it’s simply that I feel close to him here.
Whew, March was a crazy rollercoaster of emotion — such high highs and some pretty low lows. I’m ready for April and a chance to reset.
Have a great week! xx
Skirt: I want to wear this crisp poplin skirt with a little tee and feel like Audrey Hepburn breezing around on a Vespa in Roman Holiday. This denim mini dress is also begging to be added to cart.
Essay: Read this incredible essay by Virginia Sole-Smith on Ageism, Fat Phobia and the ‘Stigma of Mom.’ She writes brilliantly about the push and pull of women and our bodies. “We both want women to be mothers so badly in this country that we are taking away our rights to do anything else and we want women to look like they’ve never given birth or gone through any of the physical changes.”
Flats: Perfect woven ballet flats for transitional days.
Beach Babes: Eyeing these swim trunks for Andrew, though they would also look great on the ladies with an oversized buttoned down! The new Zara Home summer collection is here and there are some great finds like the trunks, this rattan mesh beach bag, this lounger and all of the ice-cream colored kids stuff.
TV: Either they dropped this entire season at once or I missed it, but either way I started season 2 of the delightful Amy Schumer show Life and Beth. If you haven’t watched the first season, I highly recommend. Funny and moving.
Dinner: Don’t do what I did and turn your back on the gnocchi because they will burn! But attempt #2 at this dish was a winner. Springy with lots of peas and mint (I added dill and basil too), but also comforting thanks to chewy gnocchi studded with bits of sausage.
Pants: A pull-on, straight crop pant in an easy, breezy linen is an excellent way to look like you have your sh*t together once the temperatures spike.
Sunnies: Super Smalls does it again with this super cute, super fun DYI sunglass kit. Bedazzle away.
Pants: My beloved Donni pants have been worn to death at this point and, though I’m also eyeing this great tomato color or a more neutral cream, I think I’ll end up with my goes-with-everything yellow again because I love them so.
Just started Un-Shrinking by Kate Manne, in the Virginia Sole-Smith vein: excellent.
